Squirrel Cove to Comox

The Trek South - Inside Passage 2025

We have been beat up a time or two in the Strait of Georgia, but not this time. It was a little rolly, but another fantastic day on the water. We saw six whales. We arrived in Comox around noon. It is mayhem here. We happened to be here during two major festivals and a big Canadian Holiday.

One is a music and art festival – they have 41 different musicians and 5 or six stages. if you are interested you can read about it here https://www.filbergfestival.com/about

The other is Nautical Days which sounds like it is more oriented for the kids. There will be a parade, a sailboat race, vintage car show, food trucks, splash park, etc.

We idled for a bit and waited for this ferry. We have tried way too many times to speed ahead. You never win.

We have a great view of the Wesley Ridge Fire. It started yesterday and is out of control. I texted our friend, Paul and asked if there is any smoke there cause if there was, we were turning around. He said, nope. Whew!

We were sitting on the flybridge enjoying the evening and our friend, Dave, from Dagny happened by! We invited him up for a beer and we had a great visit. He built a bike rack for his dinghy that we are quite jealous of! I think now that we have a permanent slip, we can bring our ebikes with next year. That will be super handy.

Boy is it shallow where all those dinghies are. The water practically disappears at low tide!

We decided to stay 2 nights in Comox because we don’t want the stress of squeezing into a crowded anchorage. Why give up a sure thing! It’s not a bummer though, as it is a really cute town. We went to the pub for lunch yesterday and it was amazing!

The downtown is not too far from the marina.

We’re going to go shopping today other than that, we’re footloose and fancy free!

Talk Soon.
