We got up bright and early along with everyone else (9 boats when all was said and done) and headed out of Fury Cove at 5 am. We are all hoping to take advantage of light winds in the morning which will ramp up in the afternoon. Cape Caution is no joke and the journey should not be taken light heartedly. It is open water all the way to Japan. We were so happy to hear from the weather router (Chris Parker) that Saturday will be a mild crossing. And boy howdy, that was so true. It was absolutely glorious!

We battened down the hatches for the rocking and rolling. Which is unavoidable in open ocean swells. We spent about 4 hours in pretty big swells, and then we were in Queen Charlotte Strait. Glittering seas, light winds, the swells getting more and more gentle. We both were very tense and had not slept well. We both heaved a big sigh of relief. WE DID IT!!

The anchor set at Blunden, we broke out the celebratory bevies. We were the only ones in the harbor. By the end of the night there were 7 boats and it still felt roomy. Just as forecasted we had 20 knots of wind for several hours in the afternoon. We were fine with that, that keeps the bugs down. Speaking of which, I have very bad reactions when bitten by anything and I got a bite on my chin in Shearwater that STILL has a welt and is itchy!

We spent a very peaceful night and left around 8:30 for our next stop: Sullivan Bay. It was only a three hour cruise, so we did our best to go really slow. The current was raging and we still arrived … in 3 hours! I checked in with them if it was okay to show up then and they said sure.

Sullivan Bay is an adorable boardwalk town with a marina. Our friend Greg keeps a travel blog as well and here is his write up about it: https://www.newtradition.blog/2025/07/06/sullivan-bay-bc/

They have a bunch of beautiful float homes, a general store, fuel dock, library, laundry and showers. They also have a restaurant and on Sundays they have brunch. The eggs Benedict were made to order. It was really delicious. They also had eggs, bacon, pancakes and potatoes. And fresh fruit. This is a real treat in an area where everything has to be ferried in.

We are heading up soon for happy hour. Boaters bring appies and beverages and sit around and shoot the breeze. It is always fun to get together with other boaters, you are instantly friends and have so much to talk about. I’m bringing onion dip, wheat thins and dill cheese. (I know, eclectic.. but it’s what I have 😛

Tomorrow we are headed to Lagoon Cove. (where they do the same, but they provide prawns and the boaters provide the side dishes). Now, I have to think of another appetizer! I’m thinking focaccia.

I’d better go feed my sourdough starter.
