After our peaceful evening in Klewnuggit, we headed out of a jellyfish bloom. It was pretty warm yesterday, so that must be their cue. Mainly moon jellies and a few egg yolk jellies. Who, interestingly enough, will be getting fat as the egg yolk jellies eat moon jellies. Who knew?
We left around 7. I did the calculations for current at Grenville Channel. It is based off the Wrangell Narrows current station. (which is 220 nautical miles away) Both yesterday and today, I was surprised by the results. It isn’t too much current, so we weren’t worried about it. It will be crucial to be correct soon.
As usual, the cruise started out in low cloud cover and then lifted and revealed beautiful sunshine. We enjoyed the peaceful beauty until Wright Sound. We saw some humpbacks leaping out of the water and slapping their fins. Quite a treat. We were watching them in a sea of glitter through the binoculars. And then, all of a sudden, the wind whipped up out of nowhere. Windy says it is supposed to be 6 knots. Hm. We only had about 20 minutes left to go to our anchorage, so we headed there pronto.
This anchorage is open to wind from the south and that is exactly where this wind is coming from. We knew this coming in. When we anchored, it was a steady 20 knots for about an hour. It has been steadily coming down. It’s about 15 right now. The anchor set right away, we haven’t budged, our bow is pointed straight into the waves and besides the very loud slapping on the bow with each wave, we are quite happy we’re here and not out there in the stiff breeze.
My loaf of bread deserves to be entered into the fair. She’s a beauty. I have been having temperature issues and could never get it quite up to temp, so it’s a crap shoot when we slice it.
