It was an intricate passage into Pond Bay but once in, it was a really nice anchorage and we would definitely stay there again! We came in through Dog Island. I read about it AFTER we were safely tucked away. The Douglass guide said it was too treacherous and to go in through Cat Passage. Oopsie. I checked in with Greg and asked how they did it. He said that he meant to tell me about it, the Douglass’ did not have GPS back when they wrote the guide and he came in the same way. I think that section needs updating! We enjoyed a sunny breezy afternoon – the only drawback was the horse flies. There were about 3 of them tormenting us.

We woke up bright and early for our crossing. Our goal was to depart at 4:30. That put us into Prince Rupert at 1pmish. (I forgot about the time change.. 2 pm) Pacific Crest pulled out right behind us, so we felt like we had a buddy boat for the crossing, which was nice.

It was really rolly for a couple of hours, but smoothed out after about four hours in and we enjoyed the rest of the cruise. We have some cruising friends that checked in with us during our passage. So thoughtful! Pacific Crest pulled into Prince Rupert about an hour behind us. They were just clearing customs and then off to stay at the Yacht Club dock. I was disappointed, as I wanted to chat with them. I was hoping to meet up for dinner or drinks. Oh well. Maybe another time, I’m sure we will be leap frogging them all the way down. They are from Vancouver, WA.

I’m glad we made a reservation at Cow Bay Marina, as there are folks staying on the outside of the breakwater. There is also a 30 million dollar super yacht on the outside. Evviva. That is Italian for “something beautiful or special.” I looked it up as someone next to us at dinner said Oprah owned it. Nope. The founder of Bayliner Marine Corp is the lucky guy. Last time we were here, they gave us a slip. This time we are parallel parked on the long dock. There is a lot of traffic in and out of the marina and it seems like the fisherman give er the onion about where we are. Jim said we were waked really bad about midnight. I slept right through it.

It didn’t take too long to clear customs and get set up. Jim hosed the salt water off and then we went up to the pub for dinner, we didn’t feel like cooking after getting up at 3:30 am.
We are going to stay here two nights, do some provisioning and then head down the “ditch”. Grenville channel.
