We walked in the pouring rain to have breakfast at the Sandpiper Cafe with Rocky and Tracy. After stopping for groceries we headed back to the boat for a cozy afternoon of reading, games, naps, and movies. We were in the middle of a movie and someone was climbing onto the back of the boat with very large fenders looking concerned!! We jumped up and he said, sorry, he didn’t know we were on the boat, but they were bringing a sinking boat in and he was concerned that the tow boat would strike our boat and he was fending it off. Jim helped him move our boat back on the dock. We watched the operation and our boat would have been collateral damage. He left us where he moved us, so I hope the owner of this spot does not return until after the storm! Postscript: I checked with the Harbormaster, and we were fine to stay in that spot.
Sunday morning, Tracy, Sophie, and I went for some urban delight to a nail salon for mani-pedis. I hope that when our next set of guests arrive we will have sandal weather!
We had a fun day exploring Juneau. We all went to the Alaskan Brewery down by the cruise ships and wandered the shops after. We were all soaked by the time we got home. All of our raincoats must be rain-resistant, not waterproof! Our rain gauge on our boat shows that we have received over 6 inches of rain since Friday!
We didn’t relish the idea of tramping around in more rain, so we rented a car. We drove to Costco to have a quick lunch. What?! No pizza. We’ll do some serious provisioning after Sophie goes home. We did a quick walk-through to see if they had raincoats. Instead, we got them at Sportsman’s warehouse and Fred Meyer. The Mendenhall Glacier has a hike involved.
Monday afternoon the harbormaster had some slips for us. That was the easiest move ever! We are in the Harris Harbor downtown.
We packed a lot into Tuesday. We drove around and checked out the sights, and took a hike to Nugget Falls at Mendenhall Glacier. We left at 7:30 am and didn’t get back to the boat until 5pm. We are all pretty exhausted. Sophie’s flight is at 5:20 am, so we will all be in bed early tonight.
Talk Soon.
