Sep 11 – Did laundry and mailed Sophie’s airpods. Which, by the way, was not easy. The post office would not take them without some form that they don’t provide, I had to go to an office supply store and purchase one. What? I took them to the UPS store and they had the right forms and boxed them up for me and off they went. My sister is coming soon, so we are just going to hang out here and get ready for them. We took a sunset marina dinghy ride. So far, 7 weeks in and we aren’t tired of this yet.
Sep 12 – Rainy. Cleaned both fridges. They are the old style where you have to defrost them. Went shopping. Lazy day. Read up on the flybridge. Had a call with my sister Jolene at 5.
Sep 13 – Scrubbed the boat and washed the windows. Read for a bit. Went over to the Union after a nice shower. We played Scopa on the flybridge.
Sep 14 – Filled up the water. Had a pedicure. Went to Bellingham to Costco and LFS. It was a chilly day. LFS is a marine store and every trip to town requires a stop at some marine center or another. If you are ever out this way, the drive along the water is “Chuckanut”. We take the interstate to Bellingham and Chuckanut on the way home. It was originally the only way to Bellingham. It is narrow and winding. (and beautiful!) We also go to church at “CTK” (Christ the King) in Bellingham, so we have a few favorite haunts there as well.
Sep 15 – Up early. Went to Seattle to pick up Lisa and Ty. We had dinner at 13 coins. Home for drinks on the flybridge.
Sep 16 – We set off early, did the loop around Fidalgo Island. We stayed the night at La Conner. The current was RIPPING through the Swinomish Channel. Walked around La Conner, and had dinner out. We played Neanderthal poetry and had a nice evening. We set ourselves up to be first out on the public dock. Someone came in during the night and parked right in front of us. (a small power boat).
Sep 17 – The current was still ripping when it was time to leave. We set Lisa up with a fender. I set up a spring line on the stern. The idea was to not let the boat go until we were about 45 degrees and then give her the onion. We all played our parts well, but we could not overcome that current and struck the boat in front of us. He came out and yelled at us. I apologized. Told him we would come back and give him our insurance info. I thought, well, that’s it. We’re never getting insurance again. Meanwhile, he looked his boat over, gave me the thumbs up, and said we’re good. There’s no damage. WHEW. We decided we would never leave a dock like that again. We will grow old and die there. Off to Jones Island. Took a hike on the East Loop. We have only done the West one twice. We can recommend both those hikes, they hug the coast and gorgeous scenery the whole time. Afterwards, we took a dinghy ride around the bay. Back to the boat for dinner. It was a rough start but the day turned out wonderful.
Next week it is officially fall.
Talk Soon.
