Sep 4 – 5 Did some laundry and washed the boat. Got Sophie’s room ready. Foggy morning – burned off a little later. We had to move from slip E63 to C24. Once upon a time that would have caused us to melt down. We must be getting better at this 🙂
Sep 6 – Got up at 4 – showered and got on the road. Stopped for a quick Starbucks. Picked up Sophie at the airport. Went to Fisheries Supply. Came home and took Sophie for a cruise around Fidalgo Island. Late dinner and went to bed at 10.
This is the route we took around Fidalgo Island. By the end of the summer, we did this route three times. With the Cearleys, with Sophie, and then with my sister and brother-in-law. It is a nice cruise and worthwhile. You need to go through Deception Pass at slack though.
Sep 7 – Got up, and showered at the marina. We were going to surprise Jim with a Panda from Gere-a-deli’s. It doesn’t open until 9. Drats. Breakfast underway. We are going to Jones Island. (Sophie’s nickname when she was growing up was Jones, we felt we had to take her there on her whirlwind tour). It was such a calm, sunny, beautiful cruise. Pozole for dinner. Played Scopa on the flybridge. Did some reading and bed early. This is a banner year for wasps. We are always surprised when we are so far from shore, why are they out here? You’d think they would be hanging out on land. Not much to eat on the water. If you know, comment and let us know. We’re going to take a hike tomorrow morning while it is cool and then head over to Stuart Island.
Sep 8 – We enjoyed our hike. Had some breakfast sandwiches and then off to Stuart. TENSE afternoon. Once that was resolved, fun dinghy ride around Reid Harbor. We made Sophie climb the STEEP hill to register us (that’s why you have kids, free slave labor 🙂 Why so tense? We towed our dinghy from Jones to Stuart as it is not that far. We missed the mooring buoy AND BACKED UP to take another run for it. Ruh-roh you’re saying. What about the dinghy in the back? Since it was our first time towing the dinghy, it slipped our mind that it was even back there and yep we wrapped the painter (boater’s jargon for the dinghy line) around the propeller. Jim tried unsuccessfully to dislodge it. We do have a tow package (whew!) We called and Captain Fritz from Friday Harbor came to the rescue! She brought a diver with her, he jumped in and didn’t even have to cut the line, just unwrapped it from the propeller. Two minutes tops. That tow package was worth every penny!! We’re off to Sucia tomorrow.

Sep 9 – Beautiful calm trip to Sucia. We took a dinghy ride around a finger of Sucia. Sophie cut Jim’s hair in the cockpit. We had leftovers for dinner. We had delicious meals all week, so that was fine with us. The wasps were fierce! Nice relaxing day. We need to head back already – Sophie’s time is already up :/
Sep 10 – Beautiful cruise back to Anacortes. Sophie and I showered while underway. That is one thing about our boat, we have a lovely shower!! We also did the dishes and straightened up while we were underway. Porpoises were right outside the kitchen window. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything when I am downstairs – we have big wonderful windows. We tied up, checked in, and took Sophie for the obligatory drive around the Washington Park loop (it is a nice drive!) We had lunch at Bastion Brewing. Got to the airport at 3:20. It took her A LONG time to get through security. They were already boarding by the time she got to her gate. That trip flew by too quickly. Later that day I got stung by a wasp. Not surprising.
That’s a wrap for this week.
Talk Soon.
