August 28 – (Stuart Island, Reid Harbor) We went on a hike to the Turn Point Lighthouse. The first mile was STEEP uphill. The next mile was all uphill as well. Steep down to the lighthouse.. steep back up. You get the idea. It was 4.4 miles round trip. I don’t see us clamoring to do that again! There is a store in the woods though where you can buy T-shirts and hats on the honor system, We bought some tees for the boys. Later our friend John laughed and said that there is a much easier way to see the lighthouse, go to Prevost Harbor and dinghy to the county dock.
August 29 – We left Stuart Island and headed for Sucia. It was pouring rain with 1-mile visibility. It was the first time that we drove from inside the boat, we are usually on the flybridge. It poured all day. We took advantage of the phone in registration at the mooring buoy cause we didn’t want to take the dinghy to shore to register. (It is $4 to phone in your reservation – you know how debeneezer can be) We purchased a Washington Parks Pass for $135. With the pass, we can stay up to 3 days on a mooring buoy or dock for free in Washington State Parks. There are over 40 marine parks in the Puget Sound/San Juan area. Although it is free, you still have to go to shore to register.
August 30 – We took a hike to Ewing Cove on Sucia Island. Sucia Island is called the “Crown Jewel of the San Juan Islands”. Here is some more info on it if you are interested. https://nwsailing.com/sucia-island-crown-jewel-san-juan-islands/ I was still nursing my sprained ankle. We really enjoyed the hike though. It is still pretty rainy, so not wanting to sit outside in the rain, we watched a movie.
August 31 – Woke up to fog. Glad we don’t have cruising plans for today. It cleared up later – we took the dinghy to Ewing Cove – fun! Lots of seals at the point. Beautiful afternoon. This week has been really relaxing.
Sep 1 – We have been on our mooring ball for 3 days so we need to move. We just moved from B7 to B10. Went to shore and registered – took a hike to Fossil Bay. It is Labor Day weekend. By the time we went to bed, there were 63 boats in this harbor. Crazy.
Sep 2 – Woke up again to no battery power. We are figuring out the sweet spot. How long to run the generator each day? Evidently, we are not running it long enough. Had a teledoc appointment, and needed some antibiotics. No pharmacies around here! Took a 3-hour cruise to Anacortes. Since everyone is out and about on Labor Day weekend, it wasn’t a problem to get a slip.
Sep 3 – Sophie is coming next week, we are just going to hang out at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes. Provision, do laundry, wash the boat and get Sophie’s room ready. Can’t wait to see her!
Week 5 in the books.
Talk Soon.
It was 4.4 miles Each way!
