We will never forget to check the balance again!

Italy 2025

After coffee and some chores, we headed out for our day. We stopped by for a cappuccino at the neighborhood cafe and took the bus over to the Campo de Fiori to meet up with our food tour group. There were 13 of us and we had a FANTASTIC tour! As we wandered along, he gave us bursts of history lessons and amused us with his wit. We sampled suppli, pork sandwich with prosecco, limoncello, roman style pizza (2 kinds), maritozza (cream filled sweet bread), and capped it all off with gelato. What a fun day. Small world, one of the attendees is stationed at Aviano (the base we were stationed at) and another girl’s birthday is tomorrow – and so is mine!!

Our food tour ended in Trastevere – so we did a short Rick Steves walking tour of that neighborhood. We capped it all off with aperitivo at a local place we found at the end. It was getting chilly so we didn’t hang out too long and headed for the bus. We were about 1/2 a block away from the bus stop when the bus pulled up. We were so lucky! There were A LOT of people getting on and off that bus, so as we stepped on, the doors shut and we were off. Whew!

We stopped by the Conad grocery store for some dinner supplies for later. We bought two oranges and you guessed it! We forgot THE BALANCE!! We were in the self-checkout lane and caused MUCH commotion!! Hopefully that is seared into our brains and we don’t forget to do it again!

I had to do my research on this one. What in the world? What are all those notes for? I assumed it was something to do with fertility since he is holding a child. Perhaps prayers to be blessed with a child? Nope. This is St. Anthony and he is the patron saint of lost things. He also was visited by the Christ child and so was sainted. He died at the tender age of 36. The folks in front of me put a note up there.

We came home and hung up our laundry. All of our rentals have a washing machine but no dryers. We have our clothes on a clothes horse with a fan blowing on them. (is a fan that much more economical than a clothes dryer?) I asked Jim, he said probably not, but they probably don’t use a fan when they dry theirs.

Had some dinner and chatted with Sophie. I am doing everything I can to stay awake until 9. Woof.

Things the city tells me. I wish I would have taken a picture of a different note we struggled to suss out. Something about a church, a lot of prepositions, a few articles. Oh! We have a translation app. Nope – please! Do not allow your dog to make his necessary all along this wall.

We need to get up and get showered and packed and out of here by 8 am tomorrow. It is going to be a nailbiter.

I see a regular size one of these in our future!

Our lovely VRBO host, Milena, is coming to say goodbye and calling the cab for us. HOW NICE!! We were just going to lug our bags several blocks to the taxi stand!

This suppli was waaay better than the one we tried previously – rice, tomato sauce, mozzarella, breading

San Remo music festival starts tomorrow! It is televised nightly at 8:35 pm. This must be only for people who do cocaine. The rest of us cannot stay up that late!

Our tour guide is funny – he showed us how to drink out of the foutain properly. Do not do it like a dog and certainly not like the Americans who cup their hands and look ridiculous!

parleremo presto
