Van Isle Marina until Saturday

Vancouver Island

Tuesday afternoon we explored Ganges Harbour. It was gorgeous until we decided to get into the dinghy and then it rained on us all the way over. We walked around the shops, stopped and had a beer and soda water ($3 each?! What the french toast?! – soda water is practically free) at a truly “Local Pub”. I need to work on this awkward skill: how much are you going to charge me for soda water and subsequent refills? Asking for a friend.

The sun peeked out on our way back, so we took a little cruise around the harbour, (Canadian spelling). We went into the next, “Long Harbour” and explored that as well.

This is the guy that gives liveaboards a bad name.

We weighed anchor yesterday and enjoyed a beautiful cruise back to Van Isle Marina. We didn’t go as far as Wallace, but we did take a spin around Montague Harbour. Beautiful. We came back to a marina because my sister is coming for a visit on Friday and we have a boat project that we will more than likely need 100 trips to a hardware store for. On our way in, we spotted a sea lion.

Not a great picture, but the crying lion, Washington Companies logo on this cargo transporter.

Pro tip: Remember when we used 10 gallons of water to unsuccessfully rinse the enormous amount of mud off the anchor (and made a huge mess of the entire bow of the boat)? We read a tip from the Boat Galley newsletter. Every so often as you are preparing for departure, pull up a bit of the anchor and let it soak. Game changer. We get it almost all the way up, and keep it in the water as we slowly drive away until it is clean or mostly clean.

The dock hand complimented Jim on his mad docking skillz. We had a quick lunch and I headed to town and Jim washed the boat.

One of the hard things of cruising is missing out on important family events. Our grandson turned 4 recently. We had a grandparents birthday party via FaceTime at Phill and Martha’s. I went to town for cake and candles, and Jim made us party hats. We lit the candles, sang him “Happy Birthday”. He blew on the phone – and the candles went out! The surprise and wonder on his face! Oh, the magic of being 4. And many more Juddster!

Lots of chores today to get ready for our visitors.

Talk Soon.
