This hidey hole was a PERFECT recommendation, thanks Paul!! We are really tucked in here. It was windy on our cruise over but once we got in here, it was less than 5 knots pretty much the rest of the day. We saw a few porpoises and seals on our way over. No whales yet.
It was a cloudy day for a cruise from Van Isle to Tod Inlet. We like to drive upstairs, there is a better view. Even bundled up, we were a bit chillier than we prefer. We had some hot food when we anchored!
We picked a spot, and put down our anchor, it seemed like it was dragging, so we picked it back up, picked a spot, and let it down again. This time it bit. We watched our position for a good hour just to make sure we were set. We have a hand-held range finder which is super handy! Things always look waaaay closer than they are! We are 300 feet away from the shore and our boat neighbors.
We are working on our power management. We have a few new things from last summer to add in to the power consumption equation. We are going to run the generator for 1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the evening to top everything off. When the generator is running we can use the microwave, electric outlets, run the heater, charge all our gadgets, charge our bluettis and top of our house bank.
We have 2 bluettis. They are a portable power bank. One is dedicated to the Starlink; the other to our other power needs when the generator is not running. Our heater only runs with the generator. It was chilly this morning and we didn’t want to disturb our neighbors, so we bundled up until 7:30 am. The heat is feeling nice! We are regretting our decision to take our diesel heater home on our last trip (we weren’t using it, so why have it hog up space? Well, now we know why!)
This is my lame attempt at a panoramic shot. I know my phone can do one, I’ll give it a whirl later. Screen shot of our anchor alarm – if we go outside that geofence an alarm will sound. It is connected to my phone though, so if we leave, my phone has to stay behind. Please comment if you know of an anchor alarm that you can take with you
Sorry for the boring details, but I feel like I have a few different audiences to cater to: 1) our friends and family who want to come along 2) our boat friends who are in the planning phase of taking the same trip so appreciate the minutia and 3) ourselves. We already ordered a custom book that includes the first six months of this blog. It will be fun to look over when we are finished and it will be nice for the kids to have when we are gone. I sent it to my mom, who does not have internet. I think she will really enjoy reading about our adventures.
The sun is peeking out today. It’s funny, you can visit somewhere and have a different impression of the area whether it was sunshining or completely cloud covered.
We are loving our Starlink. We have enough cell service here to maybe get a text. With the Starlink, we can talk on the phone, stream programs, upload a blog, check weather and tides, etc. If you are on the fence, and you travel a lot, drop what you are doing and buy one already.
Time to get on with my day. I hope we see a bit of blue sky all day!
Talk soon.
