Taranto

Taranto is a coastal city in southern Italy. It lies between the Mar Grande (Big Sea) and Mar Piccolo (Little Sea) bodies of water. Bridges link the mainland to the old town, on a small island. This is home to the 15th-century Aragonese Castle, the Spartan Museum of Taranto, and San Cataldo Basilica, with a baroque facade. The MArTA Archaeological Museum has a collection of artifacts from prehistory to the Middle Ages. ― Courtesy of Google

We mailed my sister’s package. Yikes. 52 euro for the shipping and 3 euro for the box. Ouch. But we are sure she will get it. I probably could have mailed it from the Italian Post Office, but during my research someone mentioned that it took 3 months for them to get a package they mailed home. So, we sent it Fed Ex from Mailboxes etc. She already has a tracking number.

Yellow Highlights are a few of the areas we have mentioned.
The purple star is where we are headed March 7th.

We got some tickets first thing this morning to go to Taranto. That is inside the heel of the boot, still in Puglia. It took about an hour and a half to get there. We had a picnic lunch and then wandered around for a few hours. Although the church was not open, there was a glass door that I could peer through and could see the interior.

It was a gorgeous day. And wow. It looks like Taranto is the place to be for Valentine’s Day. They really did it up.

This is just a sample of the plethora of decorations!

It was not nearly as nice when we returned to Bari. We decided to have something warm for dinner tonight. We did some grocery shopping and made our way home. No aperitivo on the terrace today! The clothes are finally dry though. I washed some more today – let’s hope they don’t take 3 days to dry! Oh, and haha, I used the translate app and have actually only been washing our clothes in fabric softener. Oopsie.

Yes, we are taking our lives in our hands, this IS a road and a car did come around the corner.
We had to hug the wall.

Hang in there, stay dry, and enjoy it all. When traveling, we know that sometimes it feels like we are “stepping back in time” to a very different experience without all of our modern conveniences and creature comforts and away from all of the political drama these days (alleluia). Language barriers? Yeah that too! Be safe and embrace it all.
