Today’s cruise was a long one, 62 nm – 9.2 hours. We left at 6 am. It was so calm and peaceful. All day, as we enjoyed the smooth seas and spectacular scenery, we exclaimed, “Now! This is what we signed up for!”. It was absolutely glorious.
We had a very short exposure to unprotected waters, but the swell was negligible. We had our breakfast underway – hardboiled eggs. I don’t think that we can bring those across the border and we have a little less than 2 dozen to eat in three days!!
The scenery is majestic. The mountains rise so high that they dominate the horizon. The forest clings to the steep incline right to the water’s edge. The water is emerald green.
We are traveling in the Fiordland Conservancy right now. The route winds through narrow channels carved between the mountains and islands, creating a maze-like network of waterways
We saw two whales today. We are unsure of the first but the second was definitely an orca. Both sightings were brief though.
We stopped for a side trip to a waterfall and all of us got our picture taken. Here’s ours:
After a long day of cruising, we felt drained. We enjoyed a great dinner. All dinner choices are now based on not wasting our fresh food. We had pasta made with fresh tomato sauce, garlic, onion, asparagus, mushrooms and sausage.
We are headed to an abandoned cannery, Butedale today. They have a dock but we might have to raft. Most of us have not done that before, so it will be an adventure! Valerie is making some chili so I am making cornbread to go with it. This cornbread is not making itself! So, better get on with my day.
