We woke up to a glorious morning, crisp air, and brilliant blue skies. After our morning generator run, we hopped in the dinghy and headed out to explore the inlet. We first stopped by our neighbors, fellow PaNNTOA members Jeff and Janet Hughes (and we can’t forget Munchkin, their 10-month-old puppy) with a beautiful Nordic Tug 42 by the name of What Odds. I took their photo for the PaNNTOA photo contest “Friendships” but I should have taken several since this one is washed out. Since I am on the board, I probably can’t win anyways 😛
On our way in, we noticed a weirdly shaped sunken boat. Jeff and Janet were telling us the night before, some orcas swam into the inlet. (this is extremely rare) They swam very close to a couple in a dinghy, who remained calm (I know I would be losing my mind). Everyone in the inlet enjoyed the show. Meanwhile, a seaplane was taking off unsuccessfully and crashed! Thankfully, the pilot was not hurt and swam to safety. The crashed plane was the weird sunken boat we saw on our way in. Jeff said he was busy watching the orcas and missed the crash.
We enjoyed our chat with them and headed off on our exploration. We stopped by Chatterbox Falls. There was a seaplane at the head of the dock and a couple were getting married at the base of the falls! What a fantastic destination wedding! And to top it off, they could not have picked a more picturesque time! Later that day the clouds rolled in and it was extremely cold and gloomy.
We played some spicy farkle and a few rounds of cribbage. It was breezy, gloomy, and chilly. I was bundled up with a blanket. About the time we should head in and start some dinner, the wind died down and the sun came out. It was warm and relaxing and we didn’t want to go in. Consequently, by the time we prepared dinner, ate and did dishes it was already 8 o’clock! Those of you that know me, know I turn into a pumpkin at 9. We ended up staying up until 10. We cannot leave until 10:29 am anyways, so we can have a lie-in like lounge lizards.
I revived the sourdough starter Sophie gave me and am baking a loaf of bread today. It should be ready to bake when we pull into Pender this afternoon. We are opting to go to Pender instead, because we are waiting for a Strait of Georgia crossing and it will be a little closer. We are thinking Monday.
Talk Soon.
