Prince Rupert Day Two

Posted on July 1, 2024July 1, 2024 By Debbie Kochel
Flotilla

As I am buttoning this up it is July 1st. Happy Canada Day!

Prince Rupert has nice waterfront trails

If you recall, we went to bed rather late playing 5 Crowns with Ray and Vince, so we slept in until 6 am Sunday morning. While Jim made coffee, I ran to the laundry room to start a load of clothes. There is one washer and one dryer here. They recently remodeled and while they are working the bugs out, the following sign is on the machines “Laundry is free – come to the office to get change for the machine or reimbursement.” It was 6 dollars a load, so pretty handy getting $24 from the office when they opened 🙂

I wanted to find a local church but they all seemed far away from the marina so church online it was.

Huge tide swings here!

We walked to Safeway to get – okay… one guess. Starbucks!!

Lots to see and do in Prince Rupert

We spent the morning transferring laundry. Mike came over this morning and gave us a few pointers on where and how we could fish for halibut, salmon, and do some prawning. I’ll get some fishing licenses before we leave Canada so we will be ready! We also talked about things to do and see once the flotilla disbands.

We went to the Saltwater Bakery. Wow! Armed with a box of delicious treats, we walked back, put on some tea and devoured two of the four.

Our favorite was the upper right one for sure

That must have tuckered Jim out because he is enjoying a nap while I get this together 🙂 When he awakes, we will go for a little walk – I only need 2k more steps for my 10k steps today. Note: I ended the day on well over 15k. Nice

Darn, the path ends near the Wheelhouse Brewery

I am making stuffed peppers with a cucumber salad for dinner. That should finish off our vegetables before we clear customs.

Jim’s beer was tasty – I had an NA beer that was peach flavored – it was delicious

We have our briefing today at 3. We went to Safeway to pick up some ground beef for our celebratory taco bar in Foggy Bay ALASKA!! We checked into the US using our roam app and we will head out at 5 am. Yes, you read that right, we checked in early because when we cross the border there will be no cell service. It is too long a haul for most boats to go from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan so you’ll need permission to anchor in Foggy Bay if you are not cleared. They would need to board your vessel in Ketchikan. Luckily, we are cleared for entry. We also got some verified traveler numbers for easier entry next time.

It’s nice of Dan and Valerie to host the group while it rains for our briefing

We are leaving early because it should be near slack for Venn Passage out of Prince Rupert, which is going to be rather tricky.

Using the Roam App to clear into the US

We enjoyed our stay in Rainy Rupert.

Off to Alaska.

Talk Soon.
