The Trek South - Inside Passage 2025

I have a correction to the last blog post. I mistakenly said that cruise ship that we were dodging was 245 feet long. No, it was 945 feet!

Last look at Ketchikan – looking a little ominous!

That was SUCH a great decision to go wait it out in Ketchikan! The wind howled for days and we watched Dixon Entrance — It did not look like fun.

Not so much fun, this dang crowded bus. I decided to walk back! Jim needed some parts so I went to Pacific Pride. I asked the fellow at the counter if I picked out the right stuff as it was slightly different. He said, Yes! You did great but we are going to have so much fun. He had a box of tricks and sent me home with some ridiculous things. I handed them to Jim and said they didn’t have exactly what you needed but the guy said these will work instead. Man!! I wish I would have filmed Jim’s reaction. He tossed them down in disgust. I am laughing just thinking about it.

We did chores, shopped, took walks, people watched and played games. And ate a delicious assortment of fish!

GREAT NEWS! We got a permanent slip in beautiful Brentwood Bay, BC! Woot! We were very naive when we bought our boat, we didn’t realize how hard it is to get a slip and how long the waiting lists are. It is unnerving to not have a home. We lucked into our slip at Shoemaker and I was very uneasy when giving it up.

Miss Marlie’s new home – Anglers Anchorage Marina in Brentwood bay. It’s a few minutes from Butchart Gardens on beautiful Vancouver Island. Look at all those cruising grounds though!!

Our friend, Elaine, put us on a waiting list at their marina. I never dreamed in a million years that we would have a slip this soon! I love that area! It is perfect. We can take the ferry and bring our truck over. Our slip comes with a parking spot. Starting March of next year, we can go back to Washington waters – you can spend 60 days without a permit.. perfect! We’ll winter on land and summer in BC and Washington waters.

Last night was pretty breezy. We were up on the flybridge and noticed something fall off a boat that was departing. Maybe some sort of cover? Jim went over and waited patiently for the item to float to the dock. We laughed so hard when he retrieved it .. it was HIS rain jacket! Good thing he was persistent! It blew out of the open pilot house door!

We had a fantastic cruise over to Pond Bay. It was a little over 4 hours from Ketchikan. We left at 6ish. We were following a 41′ Nordhaven “Pacific Crest”. We kept following them for hours! We were wondering, what are the odds that we will end up in the same anchorage? They peeled off – so no.

Depends on which way you look! We had a glorious 4 hour cruise headed south

I had never heard of Pond Bay until the flotillas stayed there this year and Greg and Marlene staged their Dixon Entrance crossing from there recently. We thought we would give that a whirl since Foggy Bay can get pretty crowded. It is LOVELY here today. So far, just one other boat in our anchorage… wait for it… Pacific Crest!!

It is a lovely afternoon – breezy, sunny, peaceful. We’re going to head out early tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Talk Soon.
