It was POURING rain when it was time to depart Saturday morning, so we decided to drive from downstairs. Jim already got all decked out in rain gear to remove the snubber, so I drove us out of the anchorage.
It was, again, a fantastic cruise. The sea state was calm and we were nice and cozy. I had a quiche already prepared, so we had that for lunch and dinner. Easy and delicious.
We didn’t see any whales and just a glimpse of a porpoise or two, definitely first-world problems! When we got to the Prince Rupert Harbor entrance, we went upstairs. Once you are at the entrance, it is a 5.5-mile slow cruise to town. Which we enjoyed immensely. According to the Waggoner Guide, “Prince Rupert has become a major deepwater seaport, in heavy competition with Vancouver, Puget Sound, and California. Prince Rupert is closer to Asia than any other west coast port and CN Rail owns tracks from Prince Rupert to Memphis, Tennessee.”
It is a different experience altogether driving from downstairs. After it quit raining, we put on another layer and opened the pilot house doors to give a feeling of being outside. It rained off and on the entire way, so we were grateful to be out of it, but we prefer running from upstairs. I’m glad that we held out for a flybridge when we were boat shopping.
When we got here, we went up to the Breakwater Pub. A few of the other boaters went up as well. After great conversation and a few beers, we all headed our separate ways. Jim and I went back to the boat and texted the guys on Dancing Bear asking if they wanted to get together to play some cards. They came over about 7. We had a fantastic evening! The sun does not set until 10:30. When they left at 10:45 it was still very light out.
We are staying two nights here. It looks like a perfect Dixon Entrance crossing. We’ll take that!
Talk Soon.
No fair! Wayne & his family are huge card players. They love Spades but lately they’ve been playing Hearts and ShangHai Rummy. They play every Sat. What did you guys play?
We played 5 Crowns, but we love all kinds of card games! We should have played all last winter!
