Ketchikan to Meyers Chuck

Flotilla

We left at 8 am, another gorgeous day! We enjoyed our cruise out of Ketchikan. We encountered our first cruise boat on our way out and boy howdy did we get such a wake. Jim joked with Rocky that he checked Cerise’s zincs while they were up in the air.

We saw two whales on the way here. One we got to watch for quite a bit. What a treat!

Beautiful Anchorage – LOTS of rocks so do not anchor too close to shore OR in the floatplane zone (which took us waay too long to figure out where it is)

We saw a boat on AIS that we knew from Anacortes, Dagny. We texted back and forth for a bit. We have been watching for him as we knew he was headed to Alaska this season as well. Nice to run into him! He also headed to Meyers Chuck, so we had a nice chat with him on the dock.

Our fantastic cruise ended on a less-than-sweet note, we had a hard time anchoring! We drug at the first spot (which was good anyways, as we were in the seaplane landing zone). The second time, we set but we were waaay too close to the shore. The third time, we also set but were waaay too close to one of our other boaters. At this point, I am ready to start drinking again, and Jim is drawing up divorce papers. Our friend Dave on Dagny texted, do you want to just raft up with me? We didn’t see this until after we were set, or I probably would have! Stress over! You are either watching the show or are the show. We were definitely the show today! Oh, well, isn’t that how you learn?

We mailed our postcards from the little Post Office here and on our way back to the dinghy, we met the cinnamon roll lady (and postmistress!). She has 22 cinnamon rolls for our group in the morning. We are all looking forward to them!

There ended up being eight boats anchored here and the dock filled up. You know the saying, “There’s always room for one more.”

We have a long run tomorrow 50 plus miles to Wrangell. They also do not take reservations. This is a hard concept for planners like me to grasp.

Talk Soon.
