Sep 25 – Took Lisa and Ty to the airport. Jim and I had lunch in Burien. I am 100% positive Jim saved us from getting carjacked and robbed. A gal approached our car sobbing that her husband was having a seizure. He was sitting nearby on a ledge making seizing-type movements. The woman wanted us to give her a ride to her apartment to get his meds. She begged and would give us $5. I was feeling kinda mean at this point, like why aren’t we already driving her over there? Jim asked her more details and she then said we would need to load her husband into our car and take him to the apartment. Jim had a bad feeling about it all and said he was sorry but no. She walked away. As soon as she got to the sidewalk he stopped his seizing and looked me right in the eye. He was obviously faking a seizure. I’m a little too trusting to live in a big city. The traffic was HORRIBLE to and from Seattle.
Sep 26 – We won’t have any more visitors until the next boating season, so we are now taking over the spare room as a storage room. It will be nice for everything to have a place. When someone does come, we have a plan in place to clear their sleeping area and give them a drawer and a locker. Our friends John and Julie have invited us up to their house for dinner tonight. It was a good time. Windy and rainy day.
Sep 27 – Jim put in a sediment filter for the water. Because our boat was so lightly used, we have some gunk in our water tank that is slowly but surely making its way through the system. (we don’t drink the water from that tank) We have tried flushing it several times, shocking it, etc. There’s no way to access it and give it a good scrub. We went to the Union and saw Bruce and “?” from Iris Jade. They are such a nice family (they are the ones that gave us some salmon at Reid Harbor) Their son, Angus, also jumped into the 54-degree water at 7 am on a Sunday to retrieve a critical part for us that we dropped overboard. We were SO grateful! Our electric motor would not work without that piece. (that we now have secured!)
Sep 28 – Washed the boat, went to Costco, and did some provisioning. We also got our second shingles shot.
- Beers at the dockside bar on Shaw Island 2) Blind Bay 3) Blind bay from a different perspective
Sep 29 – Left early before the wind picked up. We were bound for Blind Bay on Shaw Island. It is a marine state park with 3 mooring balls. And pretty much nothing else, just a tiny little island to register on. There are a few campsites for kayakers and power boaters. It is a little rolly from ferry traffic but not too bad. That 2nd shingles shot took us out. We did nothing all day and did not care.
Sep 30 – Felt much better and did a lot of chores. Took a dinghy ride to the Shaw Island store. Which is well stocked! There was a cute dockside bar there with an outside patio, it was lovely, sunny, and warm, and we whiled away our afternoon there.
Black line – Anacortes to Shaw Island Red Line – Shaw Island to Patos, then to Matia, then to Sucia
Oct 1 – We watched church online. It was SO good! We left Shaw and headed for (fingers crossed!) Patos. They have one mooring ball there for one lucky soul. There is plenty of camping on land for folks that come by kayak or smaller craft they can beach. No luck! We then decided to see if we could get the only mooring ball at Matia. No luck again! Headed over to Echo Bay at Sucia. It was a gorgeous evening!
Our cruising season is coming to an end shortly.
