We decided to take a cruise up Homfray Channel and back. We were halfway up the channel and I saw something poking out of the water. I asked Jim if it was a log with limbs. No, it was a buck deer swimming across the channel! It was 1.2 miles wide at that point. I wonder what made him swim across? I have been reading The Curve of Time, so naturally my mind went “he is trying to to escape a cougar.” I sure hope he made it across. It was well over 1000 feet deep at that point.
When we got to the top, I noticed that there was a northern entrance to Waddington Channel at Dean Point. We scoured our guidebooks. Is it SAFE to pass through? It was nowhere near slack tide. We could find nothing on the subject. We tried to hail a fishing vessel that was close to the entrance to ask him, are we being foolish? (sometimes this is a case of the blind leading the blind, but maybe he had some local knowledge!) He did not respond to our hail though. We drove to the entrance and took a peek. I was on the phone with Sophie. We decided that it honestly didn’t look bad and decided to go for it. We promised we would let her know if we made it.
We must not have been able to find any information because it really was no big deal. Whew. We made it safely into Waddington Channel and decided to take a spin on up Pendrell sound. (The body of water between West and East Redonda.)
After that, we were going to try and anchor at Elway Island on the recommendation of a friend, but there were already some folks in there. (the anchorage is described in the guidebooks as “cozy”) So we decided to head back to Prideaux. We slept so good in there last night and the view was beyond words.
We are going to head back to Pender today. We will provision and do a few boat projects on Wednesday and head up to Princess Louisa on Thursday. That was quite a wait for the timing to be right!
Talk Soon.
