Bedwell Harbor – South Pender Island

Those are all sailboats! We must have caught the beginning of a race.

We cast off our lines from Van Isle around 11 am. We were going to top off our fuel, but the wind was starting to pick up so we skipped the fuel dock and headed out.

It was a short choppy cruise over. It wasn’t too uncomfortable and beautiful sunny blue skies. Glorious. We got into Bedwell Harbor and slowly cruised to the end. At Poet’s Cove, we noticed another Nordic Tug on a mooring ball.

Unknowingly, we picked a rocky area to anchor in. We tried 3 times with no success. Finally, I asked Jim what the bottom was. (the charts are marked with that information). He said Rock. Hee-haw. We should have checked that first. Nice lesson to tuck away. We moved over about 50 feet, mud. Success on the first try.

We went up to the flybridge to enjoy the afternoon. I brought my laptop up and I had an email from one of our Canadian friends that they took their boat out for the weekend and where were we? Remember the Nordic Tug we saw on the mooring ball in Poet’s Cove? IT WAS THEM!

We decided it was irresponsible to throw down the anchor and head out (you need to wait at least an hour to make sure you are really set). So, they dinghied over and we whiled away the afternoon on the flybridge. My sister says we are living our best life. I have to agree!

We had no idea, but if we dinghy to shore, it is a short walk to a grocery and liquor store. That is handy! We will probably be here a day or two more because the winds are still unfavorable for our next stop: Lyall Bay, Saturna Island. We will probably need some fresh vegetables before we head out.

Talk Soon.

We have some exploring to do!
