Meet Miss Marlie
Miss Marlie is a Nordic Tug 39, hull number 222. She was built in 2013 in Burlington, Washington. (mere minutes from Anacortes!) and shipped out to the East Coast. Her first name was Cimarron. She was then purchased by someone from LaConner (again, mere minutes from Anacortes) and was shipped back. The second owner named her Emmy Lou III. We purchased her in March 2013. We renamed her Miss Marlie – after our Grandmas Mary and Marlys. She didn’t get much use, she had a few more than 600 hours on her when we purchased her. She is in really great shape and is a perfect size for a couple. Advertised as sleeping six – but ask anyone who has visited. We (happily) squeeze together but six is a stretch.
You are probably wondering how two landlubbers from Montana came to be retired and living on a Nordic Tug in the Pacific Northwest. We originally wanted to retire and buy a lakehouse. We imagined the kids flocking to our house all summer for long lazy days in the sun (if you are going to dream, dream big.) But.. Covid. We found ourselves quickly outpriced in the waterfront property market. Also we had some conversations with folks who owned a lakehouse and you do chores all week at home and then go and do chores all weekend at the lakehouse. And, then you only go to the lakehouse. We like to travel. A lot. Also at the same time, we were dreaming about a big retirement trip on a boat down the Columbia River. While researching that we discovered the wonderful world of YouTube. We thought, no! We couldn’t do that could we? We took a single screw yacht class in Anacortes, Washington in October of 2022. In January of 2023 we contacted the instructor of the class, John Friedrichsen and asked if he knew a good broker as we were getting serious about buying. He happened to be a boat broker and the rest is history. And BTW if you need a boat broker, I could not recommend him highly enough.
In case you want to geek out on the specs, here they are below, I took a photo from our owner’s manual, so sorry about the quality 🙂
