Jim worked on hooking the solar panels to the bluettis. It was a beautiful sunny day and both portable batteries got a full charge, just from the sun! The older one (we call senior) has a larger capacity and unless we are at a marina, does not get fully charged when we run the generator. A while back, we were surprised, we used every last electron. So it is fantastic that we can keep them both charged with just the sun.
In the early afternoon we headed through the cut in Don Yonko. (I suggested shortening this like we did with Marlie to Donko but was shot down). Even in the dinghy, it seemed quite scary to us. Later that day we watched a ranger tug drive through there with abandon. Wow. It took us over to Telegraph Harbor. There are two marinas there. One had a pub, store, and fuel. We needed fuel for the dinghy and pulled up to the fuel dock. “If you need fuel, go to the store and let them know“. For future travelers to this area, the store is not in the pub! It is attached to the pub though on the right, set back a bit. The store clerk is also the gas attendant. We filled up – six gallons at $7.80 a gallon US. WOW. Good thing that little Tohatsu motor is a gas sipper.
We putzed around the harbor and then headed back to play games and enjoy the beautiful afternoon on the flybridge. We decided we should get an earlier start if we want to go to Wallace (which is 5 miles away and kind of a feat for a dinghy). We’ll pack a picnic lunch and go explore.
While we were enjoying our evening, a sailboat came into the bay and joined the other 3 of us. One of the crew got in their dinghy and rowed around the harbor for exercise. He stopped by and chatted with us. Really nice fellow from Vancouver Island. He is on his friend’s boat, he has a trawler and they are going to go all the way around the island this summer. Yikes. That is big open ocean out there. I don’t even think our insurance covers that area! I asked what his favorites are in this area. He said they come to Clam Bay every year since 1987! So, this fellow agrees with me and not the blogger who was not enamored. We have hit most of the areas that are his favorites. It’s always good to check for local knowledge, maybe they have a tip or two that is not in the guidebook.
It got chilly, so we headed down to make some dinner and enjoy our evening. We are watching Allison & James head up to Alaska on their little sailboat called Uintah. Stunning.
I think we chose the better day for a dinghy trip. The wind seems pretty calm. Better get cracking.
